Over the course of last year, Team Athelstan continued to work hard on all areas of our school. Buster’s opening in November 2018, showed just how much he was worth waiting for. All visitors to school are still taken aback by Buster himself and with the way that the children respond to him. Have a look at our Gallery to see the photographs.
The huge changes to our teaching of Reading have seen a positive impact on outcomes in Reading across school including in our Phonics Screening Check, where we recorded our highest ever percentage of 92%; this has meant that we have retained our status of being a model school for Read, Write, Inc, in Sheffield.
In addition to maintaining the Primary Science Gold quality mark and the Gold Sports’ Mark from last year, we have just been awarded the Silver Arts’ Mark, which recognises the high quality of our provision in the Arts.
Last year, we were awarded the Achievement for All quality mark, which relates to our focus on all children having equal access to a broad curriculum and how inclusive this aspect is in our school. In summer 2019, however, we were granted Achievement for All Lead School status, the only school of this type in the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
