Behaviour

At Athelstan Primary School, we are committed to developing our pupils into global citizens.  We have designed our OBE - Outstanding Behaviour Expectations - to support our pupils to recognise the qualities needed.

They are as follows:

I follow and respond to our expectations of behaviour, even when I am not directly supervised and

do not need reminding of the rules.

I am thoughtful and respectful of everyone in our school community.

I am courteous and well-mannered at all times.

I make the most of my learning by listening well and contributing to lessons.

My attendance is good.

I support my own learning by completing homework challenges, expanding my vocabulary,

reading widely and learning my times tables.

I am an active member of ‘Team Athelstan’ and show responsibility for my actions by

looking after my own belongings and the school environment.

I always tell the truth.

Each child has their own OBE record card, which is used to record the OBE stickers which they have been awarded. The process is as follows:

  • On a half termly basis, through the use of a circle time, adults and children discuss when they have seen pupils in the class illustrating the OBEs. Pupils discuss which OBE they feel they have not achieved and discuss how they could achieve it in the coming half term. Teachers and TAs are part of this process.
  • Class teachers award stickers for the OBEs that have been achieved.
  • When a child has earned four stickers, they share this with their phase leader, as an opportunity to celebrate the achievement. Year group assemblies, half termly, are used to celebrate these children.
  • We want the children to have ownership and provide examples of when they have achieved a certain expectation. This raises their awareness of the expectations.
  • When all eight stickers are earned, and the card is full, the children will show Ms Barry and be celebrated in assembly. They will then be awarded with a special prize labelled “OBE Ambassador”. The aspiration is for all pupils to be awarded with their eight OBE stickers.
