The WOW badge design competition is back for 2023!
Our school could win some amazing WOW prizes and the opportunity to have our pupils' designs featured on the new WOW badges!
This year's theme is: THE BRITISH NATURE WALK
The competition ends on Monday 27th February 2023
This year’s theme, The British Nature Walk, aims to bring pupils closer to the nature found across Britain!
Wherever we live, nature is all around. Think of animals or insects found in urban or rural areas, vibrant flowers or mighty trees, lakes, rivers, canals or coastlines. You can also draw a special memory of nature from a recent holiday around Britain or from a different season.
Entry forms will be given out in school and they need to be returned to Mrs Stillings no later than Monday 27th February - any questions please email Mrs Stillings at gstillings@athelstan.sheffield.sch.uk
Taylor Shaw, our caterers, will be cooking a special census day menu on Thursday 19th January:
Red: Hot dog with potato wedges and sweetcorn or beans
Green: Vegetarian hot dog with potato wedges and sweetcorn or beans
Yellow: Jacket potato with cheese, baked beans or tuna mayo
Blue: Tuna mayo grab bag
Dessert: Chocolate shortbread
We are thrilled to be taking part in the Sheffield Young Artists' competition this year. We'd love children in Y1 to Y6 to take part and create a piece of artwork at home for the competition.
There is no theme in particular, so you can create any artwork you like!
The only rules for entering the competition are that you must complete your artwork on thin card, canvas or paper, no larger than A4 size.
You also need to write your full name, date of birth and class on the back of the artwork.
Please hand your artwork to your class teacher, no later than Tuesday 21st February (any artwork handed in after this date will not be accepted). All children who take part will receive an Artsmark certificate from their teacher.
Our favourite pieces of artwork will then be chosen and submitted to the competition. Some will then be selected (and notified in March) to be displayed at The Sheffield Young Artists’ Main Exhibition which will be on 28th and 29th April at Central United Reformed Church, 60 Norfolk Street, S1 2JB.
We look forward to seeing your art entries!
If you feel your child may be entitled to income based free school meals, please contact the office, as this can be checked on your behalf, if you wish. Children who receive income based free school meals are also entitled to free milk, entry to breakfast club free of charge, along with additional support with reading. The extra funding the school receives makes a huge difference; if you are unsure if your child is entitled to this, please get in touch.
For the first time, all parents/carers now have access to the booking section in sQuid, therefore if you would like your child to attend breakfast club and they haven’t been before, you do not need to contact the office to request access first.
Booking slots for after the Christmas holidays are now available to book via the bookings tab on your sQuid account. Breakfast Club is strictly by pre-booking only.
Please note, sessions cannot be booked after 8am on the day before the day you wish to book. For example, if you wish to book your child a place for Tuesday 3rd January, you would need to book the place no later than 8am on Monday 2nd January.
Further information about breakfast club, including our terms and conditions, can be found here: https://www.athelstanprimaryschool.co.uk/breakfast-and-after-school-clubs/
How to Check Bookings
Please remember that children who arrive at breakfast club and have not been pre-booked via sQuid, will be turned away. Here’s how to double check the bookings you have made:

We will be playing party games, having a dance and enjoying some party food. In previous years we have had an abundance of left-over food; we are therefore asking for a small donation of party food from each child. Children still have lunch on party days, so the party food is just a small treat to share with their friends. To ensure we don’t get lots of one thing, we ask your child to bring the items indicated on your letter, sent home this week. As any excess food at the end of party week will be donated to the Handsworth Food Bank, we are not requesting any perishable food again this year.
Please send the food/drink into school on the day of your child’s party.
